The easiest and tastiest bliss balls ever...

If, like me, you always fancy something a little sweet in the afternoon (or whenever) but you know that a lot of those choices are not great for you then try these little balls of delight.  I discovered these when I was first trying to upgrade my food intake and they have become a staple in our house.  I make huge batches of them and throw in whatever I have in the cupboard at the time.  Whenever I have the urge for a sweet treat, I reach for these, safe in the knowledge that they are full of the good stuff and will give me a boost of nutrition and not just a quick, fattening sugar surge!  

They are so easy to make and they are super versatile. You can..

  • Roll them into balls or roll flat between two sheets of baking paper and cut

  • Use them for after school snacks or to take to work

  • Store them in the fridge for a couple of weeks

  • Add other stuff to them
    (other nuts, dried figs, prunes, apricots - anything you think will work for you and of course as before, this may give you the opportunity to throw in things you want your kids to eat (or whoever) without them even knowing they are eating them..

Trina's Tip:  

Set five minutes aside and sit down and enjoy one of these little treasures with a cup of Chai tea (coming soon) or another one of your  favourite teas and indulge yourself. Go on, you deserve it. Sweet.

Basic recipe:

10 fresh Medjool dates *

1 tsp cinnamon**

1/2 cup cashews

1 tablespoon raw cacao

2 tbs goji berries

1/2 cup dessicated coconut

1 tbs coconut oil

Throw everything in a blender and blend (EXCEPT for the coconut which is for rolling them in).


Scoop into balls. I use an ice cream scoop as a measurer so they come out roughly the same size each time. Once you have the measurement, simply squish them into balls.

Pop them in the fridge for about half an hour

* I find dried ones are just fine but I usually add a few more than  10.  If the mixture is a little dry add some coconut oil.

** I sometimes add vanilla essence for a flavour change too
